Come take a rollicking ramble down the hootenanny highway with David Hall, Portland, Oregon's favorite family musician! Described as Woody Guthrie meets Raffi on sugar, David writes, records, and performs a diversity of original folk songs to entertain and educate children and parents alike. Weather performing solo with his guitar and harmonica, or rocking out with his full band, David's unique ability to relate to the little ones, as well as capture family life in song, makes him the perfect entertainment for all things preschool. "Playing music is my favorite self-expression, and it's a stellar way to reach children and families" says David. "It truly is the universal language."
Bee Positive and Be Yourself, David's two national award-winning recordings, range from imaginative story telling to
sing-and-dance-along, ants-in-your-pants-along family fun. Whether
singing the virtues of
"Breakfast for Dinner" or an invitation to your next "Play Date," David
captures the essence of family life in today's busy world and creates
opportunities for families to discover the joy of singing and dancing
together.
David began his performing career as a youngster, taking private music lessons, performing in school and church productions, and entertaining family and friends with his neighborhood "summer-stock" theatre troupe. In high school he discovered rock-n-roll guitar and the blues, spending hours listening to the masters. In college he focused on a teaching career, all the while practicing his instruments and writing songs. Now, as a certified educator, music teacher, and busy father, he has blended his understanding of children and his love for writing and performing music.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and a Master's Degree in Education from Portland State University, where he studied music theory, composition, and performance. David directs the music department at Grace Institute's Summer Art Camp and is a seven-year veteran Music Together teacher.
A native of Eugene, Oregon, David lives with his wife and seven year old daughter in Portland. "I love what I do" says David. "I get to play music with children, the greatest audience in the world!"
